8 Typical Parenting Issues And How To Solve Them

Parenting problems should never be taken lightly. We can say these are typical struggles that most parents go through, the fact that it’s stressful is true. As parents, you want to keep a good environment in the house and keep your children safe and happy. But our kids' aggression, tantrums, and attitudes make it very challenging. No matter how much you try to keep your calm, it is natural to lose your temper at times. Here we discuss the 8 typical problems faced by parents and solutions we can do for them.

1. Poor Eating Habit

This is one of the greatest issues parents face. Their kids often do not eat proper meals at the right time and in the right quantity. They will choose to eat the sweets and snacks that are stored in the house instead of the healthy fruits and vegetables that are being prepared for them. Fries, burgers, pizzas, and other junk foods hold their attention and your child would want to eat only those every time you step outside.

If forcing them to eat didn’t work, try talking to your kids about the bad effects of continued eating junk foods. Explain and show them examples of being overweight or obese and health issues. Include them in various activities in the kitchen and let them see how a nutritious meal is prepared.

2. Procrastination when it comes to studies

All of us, parents, have these struggles with our kids' procrastinating on completing their homework or project or studying for an upcoming exam, or simply being in touch with what has been taught. Most of the time, this is met with scolding our kids or forcing them to sit and finish the chapter.

Have the time to talk to them about what they liked in school and have a sense of curiosity and interest in that subject. If they are weak or unfocused in a particular subject, talk to them about how the knowledge can be applied with real-life examples. When it comes to studying, having a set routine works like magic. So try and implement a routine and follow it consistently.

3. Stubbornness

Sometimes our kids are being hard-headed and it is one of the parent’s problems on how they will be able to give their kids a little sense of duty. Like simple house chores such as washing the dishes, cleaning the house, and throwing the garbage. They usually whine and complain first instead of following our orders.

It is very important to know the main reason why they keep on complaining. Do your best to connect with them. Stubborn or strong-willed children are highly sensitive to how you treat them. So be watchful of the tone, body language, and vocabulary you use. When they become uncomfortable with your behavior, they do what they know best to protect themselves: they rebel, talk back, and display aggression.

Sometimes our kids get angry for some reason and we should always know the root cause of it. We have probably dealt with our fair share of tantrums, meltdowns, and freak-outs. If they made a mistake, we better not use the old way of punishing them, like beating, we should set our own disciplinary action for them. For example, they are grounded to play outside for just a day so that they will be able to realize their wrongdoings.

5. Telling Lies

Most the children lie one time or the other. There will be a point of time that you may even realize that your child is lying but don’t call him out on that. This will lead to him continuing to lie which eventually can become a habit. If we will not be vigilant about this, it could manifest in hiding important things from you as well.

It is so important to not give your child a beating when he lies. Honesty is always the best policy. Let him know that you can see the lie and explain to him why it isn’t good. Tell him not to fear you while telling the truth.

6. Disobedience

This is very common to children, saying no to what we want them to do. We must always be prepared because it really happens. Most parents take this as impoliteness but your child is basically trying to build his own importance and opinion. We should understand every refusal of our children and know their reason.

As much as possible we should talk to them and ask questions like, why are you upset? Why are you refusing to listen? Why are you so angry? How can I help you? If you actually ask, and allow them to answer, you will find out more about them than when you only punish them. And they will learn they do not always need defiance as a defense. Kids have all the same emotions as adults, but they don't know how to deal with those emotions sometimes.

We are their ‘trailblazer’. We are their ‘map’ to learning how to cope more effectively.

7. More Screen Time

Digital devices are all around us. Because of this, an increased amount of screen time is causing all sorts of problems. Children are becoming more addicted to the screen as it messes with their ability to focus and concentrate. Cell phones are one of the leading factors in causing depression and anxiety among children. It exposes them to all sorts of content including inappropriate content that may not be suitable for them.

To avoid such negative effects of cell phones and TV, and to encourage their use positively, parents need to exercise greater control on the digital devices that their children use.

Shyness, a word we’ve heard of over and over, and keeps holding back certain individuals from living a full and accomplished life. shyness simply refers to being timid and nervous in the presence of people, especially those you’re not acquainted with. Most of the children today are greatly affected by the coronavirus, not the virus itself but our children's social life that may have led to lack of self-confidence. Since things are getting better now we should teach them how to get rid of shyness. Erase the definition. Completely.
