When I was a kid, I wondered how my mom did it all. How was she able to manage everything? Then I got married and, a month later, I was pregnant. Everything was new and strange. First, I doubted myself and wondered if I could be a mother. What if I became a bad mother? What if I could not breastfeed? What if I failed to do everything my baby needed? At first, you don't know what to do, but you will figure it out, I promise you. Everything will be okay.
The first thing you need to know is that you are not perfect. No one is, and it is okay not to be a perfect mother. As long as you do your part and try your best, you will be perfect in your child's eyes. Your love, care, and sacrifices are enough to make a better home. Your role as a mother is to make sure your child is loved.
As you walk through the world of being a mother, the one thing that you will face is a lack of sleep. Taking good care of your newborn is your full responsibility. As your newborn adjusts, sleepless nights are what will be demanded of you. You are bound to nurse your baby every two hours to make sure your little angel will have the right amount of milk she needs from you.
As a new mom, it's normal that you cannot sometimes understand yourself. As everything gets overwhelming, emotional confusion can set in. When you cannot understand how you feel or what you think, seek someone that can listen to you and as you share your thoughts eventually, you can figure out what’s going on with you.
As a new mom, many first things will happen. For those magical first moments with your little angel, there will be things that you don’t know, and it is normal. There will be times that you will not know what to do but eventually, it will be okay.
Mothers always sacrifice, and sometimes you will feel cut off from your regular life. As a new mom, quality time for yourself can feel impossible because your newborn needs you all the time. But please don’t go without time for yourself. Love yourself, and remember that if there is a person who can love you the way you need, it’s you!
First-time moms often struggle with breastfeeding. It is one of the first challenges after delivery. I remember with my first child, to be honest, I did not know how to hold a newborn or even how to feed him. But I tried and asked for help from people who could help me, and everything worked out. Just be patient with yourself and believe that you can do it!
Many new moms don’t know what hormonal changes are after giving birth. It is part of the process. Your body goes through a lot of things and hormonal changes are one of them. If you experience insomnia, anxiety, rapid heart rate, fatigue, weight loss, and irritability (one to four months after birth) or fatigue, weight gain, constipation, dry skin, and depression, try to seek help from your health care provider to know how you can deal with it.
Motherhood is one of the most rewarding phases of life, and it can be equally challenging for new moms. As you face challenges, you will learn along the way. It is natural for a new mom to feel anxiety, nervousness, and depression. As a mom, spend maximum time with your baby. Plan your day, limit your daily tasks and stay focused on the baby’s health and development.
So how can you be a great mother as you overcome challenges? Please do not worry. Things will work out just fine, and everything is a process. One day you’ll be surprised that even challenges can be great moments in your journey as a mother.
