Design
This allegedly wine glass carries one line of text and nothing else: the single bold word "ALLEGEDLY", quotation marks included, printed across the front of a 17 oz stemless glass. It was made for lawyers and attorneys who have trained themselves never to concede a fact, even at home with a glass of red. This wine glass is a funny gift for an attorney because the quotation marks do all the work — the word is hedged, nothing is admitted, and no further comment will be made at this time.
The lettering is a heavy, condensed sans-serif in solid white, all capitals, tall and narrow with tight spacing between the letters. There is no outline, no shadow and no distressing — just flat, modern type on a single baseline, filling most of the width of the clear glass. The straight double quotation marks sit at the same weight and height as the capitals, which is what makes the hedge read as deliberate rather than decorative.
It earns its keep at the end of a long day of depositions, discovery deadlines and clients who definitely did not do the thing.
