Description
Design
The phrase “What Part Of … Don’t You Understand?” runs along the top and bottom of this engineer coffee mug, with the whole middle given over to a dense block of handwritten equations. Engineers — electrical, civil, mechanical, computer — spend the day on maths that nobody else at the table can read, so the mug hands over the proof instead of the explanation. That is where the joke sits: the part you don’t understand is scrawled right there in the centre.
Printed in white on the black body, the design stacks into three parts. WHAT PART OF sits across the top in heavy condensed uppercase sans-serif, and DON’T YOU UNDERSTAND? closes it off at the bottom in the same condensed lettering. Filling the gap between the two lines is the equation block, written in a loose chalk-scrawled hand — a sine wave on an x-axis, a right triangle with its angles marked, π ≈ 3,1415, a double integral, a summation, a bracketed matrix and a scatter of partial-derivative and limit expressions, all decorative rather than a problem anyone is meant to solve.
It earns a spot on the desk, the lab bench and the long site meeting, and the removable clear lid keeps the drink covered and the heat in. This engineer mug is a good coffee mug for an engineer because the 14 oz double-wall vacuum insulated body keeps coffee hot for up to 4-6 hours, so the cup poured first thing is still worth drinking after a long stretch of work. Perfect for the engineer who would rather let the equations do the talking.
Perfect Gift For
- Engineering graduates for graduation day, when engineer gifts need to feel earned
- Electrical engineers at a birthday or Christmas. Most electrical engineer gifts end up being one more gadget, so this insulated mug is the easier pick.
- Retiring engineers and STEM teachers as a send-off from the team or the classroom
